Rochdale Observer – Firm hopes to target hot tip for best start

This year’s Rochdale Business Awards are sure to be a sizzling success with Target Fire Protection Ltd once again on board.

The company based at the Buckley Road Industrial Estate, Rochdale is once more sponsor of the Start Up Business of the Year Award.

The company services and installs portable fire equipment, provides fire extinguisher and fire alarm servicing. It also provides PAT (Portable Appliance Testing), dry riser testing, staff fire training and fire safety signs across the UK.

Director David Harris set up his business after being made redundant in 1998, initially working from a spare bedroom in Royton. He said: “We have sponsored the awards since it started in 2011 and are proud to be involved. “We feel it helps local business giving them a chance to promote their business and what they do and I am sure Tracing Steps, Warburton Estates and Finlay Jude Associates Ltd, all past winners of the Start Up section, have felt the benefits of winning the awards. Target Fire has grown every year in customer base and turnover and now employs 11 members of staff.”

“In 2007 we won the Chamber Member of the Year and last year Target Fire was short-listed for Business of the Year under £1m and I was short-listed for businessman of the year – we hope to go one better this year.”

David set up the business with the help of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and it employs staff including his sons Richard and Kevin, sister Linda in accounts, granddaughter Jessica in admin and his wife Pamela.

After outgrowing its original premises it moved in 2007 into the Rochdale unit. Nominations for the Rochdale Business Awards 2014 can be made online at www.rochdalebuisnessawards.co.uk
