What were the report’s key findings? 

The JLA’s 2021 Fire Safety Accountability Report was a recent survey, which surveyed more than 500 individuals who held responsibility for the fire safety standards of their workplace. 

The main findings of the report were that: 

• Even though it was part of their job responsibility, a shocking 10% of respondents did not know how a fire risk assessment should be performed.
• 10% of respondents also had no knowledge of the latest fire safety recommendations, which were required in order to be compliant with government requirements. 
• The other 90% stated that they had ‘little’ knowledge of these fire safety recommendations. 
• 13.5% of respondents stated that, in their opinion, their workplace as a whole should be ‘doing more’ to ensure fire safety within their premises. 
• However, the most significant prohibitors to achieving greater fire safety compliancy was insufficient funds (reported by 18%), the additional stress that this would cause (18%) and not having enough time to do so (15%). 
• Perhaps most shockingly, 49% stated that not all of their staff receive fire safety training. In fact, 12% reported that their staff receives no fire safety training of any kind.
