Fire Training

Do your employees understand the basic principals of fire and would they know what to
do in the case of a fire? We have a new, fully equipped, environmentally friendly training
unit and offer a comprehensive, Fire Safety Training course.

Fire Training Course

Why train your staff?

“It should be realised that the usefulness of portable fire extinguishers depends to a
considerable extent on the presence of persons who know how to operate them, and staff
should be trained in their use. Particular attention is drawn to the necessity for
compliance with statutory requirements and to the necessity for observance of
contractual obligations to insurers.” (Page 1, BS 5306-8:2000)

Statistics have proven that the hands-on approach means that the course is
remembered! Did you know that 4 out of 5 businesses fail to re-open after a large fire?
Remember: ordinary people extinguish 80% of fires! (Fire Industry Statistics).

Our annual fire theory certified course for up to 15 of your employees includes a
Microsoft Power Point presentation, video footage, and fully supervised live fire
demonstrations - with the opportunity for your employees to participate and learn how to
tackle a small live fire with confidence.

How is the two-hour course structured?

Theory - Classroom (1st hour and a half)

  • Video extracts are shown to the group, for example:
  • CCTV Footage of Shop Fire A shocking video, which shows how quickly a fire
can spread and emphasises how correct action could prevent a disaster. Here, the
untrained are shown to be oblivious to the danger of a fire started intentionally by
a child attempting to steal from the shop.
  • A House Fire, staged by the fire brigade to show the nature of fire.
  • The Common Sense Guide to Fire at Work.
  • Microsoft Power Point Presentation, showing the theory of fire (I.e. the triangle of
fire and the various ways fire can be extinguished), a section on various fire risks
and the best extinguisher to use in different situations. Here a quiz is used to
    encourage class participation.
  • How to identify an extinguisher and discussion as to how to use/hold an
    extinguisher.
  • Question and Answer session.

Practical - Outside at your site (Final half an hour)

  • Demonstrating how to use each extinguisher type on a live fire, using our all-new
environmentally friendly training unit; which uses gas to fuel the fire, and retains any
waste produced by this exercise. Fully equipped to resemble a kitchen, the unit
presents the opportunity to extinguish a “toaster”, “computer screen”, “chip pan” and
    a “waste bin” fire.
  • Under strict supervision, trainees have the opportunity to tackle a fire using the
various types of extinguisher from our unit.
  • Back to the classroom to complete a questionnaire and each receive an
    extinguisher ID card.
